Goddammit. Now Big Bottom will be in my head all day while I giggle my way around the office.

I'm glad they could leave this behind.

Harry Shearer — who portrays bassist Derek Smalls — said, “I must admit, from the moment we first began mediation with them to now, I’ve been impressed by UMG’s respect for creatives and their distinctive desire to seek a prompt and equitable solution to the issues.”
I cannot even imagine how much money they must have thrown at Harry Shearer to say something nice about them.

I cannot even imagine how much money they must have thrown at Harry Shearer to say something nice about them.

Especially in light of this particular quote:

When I tell Shearer that I've read that he considers himself an Old Testament guy, he grins. “That's true. My God is a God of vengeance.”

I also like Shearer's last bit of shade in the Variety article: "It’s emerging that Vivendi has, over decades, utterly failed as guardian of the Spinal Tap brand – a truer case of life imitating our art would be hard to find."

How could they leave [these royalties owed them] behind?

Sounds like, as they zeroed in on Vivendi, their appeal to the court became increasingly selective.

Well, that clears the way for Lick My Love Pump: The Musical.

The lyrics of Gimme Some Money seem appropriate here...

Any word if the Spinal Tap Masters survived the Universal fire?

Any word if the Spinal Tap Masters survived the Universal fire?

They're on this list of "artists whose material UMG believed had been lost in the fire and whose recordings the company spent tens of millions of dollars trying to replace."

No one knows who they were
or what they were doing.
But their legacy remains.

Maybe they'll re-record in Dubly.

Maybe two, I mean why wait?

"the Spinal Tap Masters survived the Universal fire"

This is the opening sentence of a cult classic.

The original complaint from the plaintiffs had stated that Vivendi had estimated the plaintiffs’ share of Spinal Tap income at a mere $81 from merchandising between 1984 and 2016, plus $98 from music sales between 1989 and 2016.

The review you had on your accounting, which was merely a two word review, just said "shit sandwich."

Sadly, drummers John "Stumpy" Pepys*, Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs**, and Peter "James" Bond*** were not available to celebrate this settlement with the band.

* died, bizarre gardening accident †
** died, choked on vomit ††
*** died, spontaneous combustion †††

† Something the police said "best left unsolved"
†† Not his own; never determined whose. You can't really dust for vomit.
††† Like a flash of green light, and that was it. Nothing was left. Well, there was a little green globule on his drum seat. It was a small stain, actually.
