haha nice. Might be time to revisit The Dead Authors Podcast.

“That’s good stuff” is not a phrase I associate with Herzog.

Here's the full PFT impersonation, excerpted from the podcast.

I love that Werner Herzog has a sense of humor about “Werner Herzog.”

"The accent could be better, but it's a very funny text."

I think what 'ol Werner really meant by that was: "A credible effort, but this does not pass muster as the voice of a man who has listened intimately to the last few moments of a man who in turn was being consumed by a bear."

I'd never heard the PFT impersonation before. Its pretty good, but he needs to slow down if he wants to catch the real Herzog's ponderous tone.

I agree with Herzog, excellent text. In fact, I had to look that Trader Joe's up on the map, and the parking lot is weird. I love it when comedy is related to real experiences.

Tompkins’ imitation is hilarious but not not entirely flawless - it’s flavored with a slight overtone of Woody Allen’s desperate plosive cadence.

Anyway, Tompkins also appeared quite a few times “in character” on the Doug Loves Movies podcast over the years, invariably dominating the proceedings. Definitely worth a listen.

"Tompkin's ... Tompkin's .... Tompkin's" (sic).
Oh, Youtube, you give with one hand and take with the other. Quel domage!

Agreed. Herzog speaks in a minor key.

I love how everyone here thinks this is some sort of ...comedy. I used to shop at that TJ's regularly and I assure you that this description is 100% accurate and without a trace of hyperbole. (The recurring dream I have of being pursued by wolves inevitably ends up with me attempting to flee by car but being trapped forever in that nightmare of a parking lot.)

It's also the same Trader Joe's that had that shooting a year ago.

That was my Trader Joe's for years, and the secret was you had to go into the parking lot by the wrong side, over where the video rental shop used to be. If you tried to enter/exit or park by the Trader Joe's entrance, you were risking constant death and/or destruction of your car.

I agree that the Yelp review feels pretty much on-the-nose.

Very funny stuff.

+1, and also: "Finally, a space opens up, but the price is having to enter the store"?
That's a contender for best segue ever. And fully in character.

Can't link to the timestamp, but 18m45s in to this Comedy Bang Bang (the show) he explains a new movie he's working on.

As I much as I like PFTs impression, I always think its funny when people use impersonators for him as a gag, or to give the air of a documentary voice-over, considering that he seems perfectly willing to just do it himself. Given that he did a whole season of metalocalypse, as well as rick+morty, the simpsons, the boondocks, etc. I mean, it's not like he doesn't have a sense of humor.

That is very much understanding the horror of this particular Trader Joe’s. I live less than two miles away and I sometimes drive far out of my way to the one in Glendale just avoid dealing with it.

(Also, there was a great gay bar next to the Hyperion TJ’s when I first moved here, and I have some quite wonderful memories of the things that used to go on in this parking lot after hours. That always cheers me up a bit.)

I love these types of videos. My favourite one lately is James Adomian as Bernie Sanders interviewing Bernie Sanders. Real Bernie's sense of humour about his own perceived grumpiness is so sweet.

Werner Herzog's Home Movies

The great German existentialist filmmaker, Werner Herzog, creates a home movie for his niece's birthday.

A classic in the genre.

That was my Trader Joe's for a long time, but I lived close enough to walk.

Incidentally, that's a block and a half from the apartment complex where they found the body in Lynch's Mulholland Drive. Which was originally housing for Walt Disney's animators.

Werner Herzog is the bad guy in the first Tom Cruise Jack Reacher movie, and he's so. fucking. creepy.
