Sähkö The Movie is an unconventional documentary by Jimi Tenor about Finland's iconic electronic music label, featuring bits of work by label artists, including Ilpo Väisänen and the late Mika Vainio, of Pan(a)sonic fame

Apparently this can't be viewed without connecting to Facebook which I have blocked. If anyone knows another way of getting this please let me know because it sounds rather interesting.

I don't have a Facebook account but I was able to view the film. Not sure if the Facebook Container would be useful for curtailing cookies and tracking?

Wow, this was even better than expected. Totally took me back to the 90's, such a fantastic time for electronic music and people involved with it.

Wasn't it just? Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh sweet! We were in Finland for about a month last year and picked up some CDs from this era. Can't wait for under_petticoat_rule to see this!

I was hooked on Sähkö in the late 90s to early 00s and picked up most of their vinyl catalog. DJing around Detroit, there was a lot in common with Sähkö and the local minimal techno of Jeff Mills, Dan Bell and Rob Hood. I heard a rumor that Jeff Mills was basically copying this Mika Vainio track for his Growth single the following year.

As a big minimal techno head, I always found the best stuff found a way of injecting some warmth into the otherwise very cold rigid style - Sähkö guys, esp Vainio, were masters of that. Gutted when Mika passed, and this video was a nice revisiting of their scene. So glad the rest of his label and crew are still active these days.

Is it available somewhere else?

I saw this on the boilerroom.tv website in 2017, but they were showing it only for a limited time since they had actual screening events planned as well. There may also be issues with the Blast First label, who released it as a limited VHS back when it was first filmed.?. But, yes, appears to be not on Youtube or their site anymore; hope it finds a permanent home online sooner or later.

Looks like it's back on the Boiler Room website. I used Kill Sticky to get rid of the overlay and was able to watch the film.

I can't access it without a Facebook account, funnily enough.

Anyway, folks, maybe the Facebook derails can be taken elsewhere? (Metatalk?) I already suggested a workaround at the top.
