These guys are great!

There are a lot of covers of "Thunderstruck" kicking around, featuring various ensembles and instruments, but this one is really good.

As the player of a small, stringed instrument...oh, man. Nikita Cheremysin's right hand is a master class in staying fast-but-loose, and relaxed-but-loud. It's way harder than it looks. He's not fucking around.

And the pairing with the accordion is awesome.

Came for the mandolin conspiracy review. Was not disappointed.

Heh.

I'm liking this.

What appears to be a Halloween party in the Smoke on the Water video looks fun as hell.

Interested balalaika fans might also want to be aware of Igor and Red Elvises (your favorite band!)

I was today days old when I discovered that there is such a thing as a contrabass balalaika, and they are enormous.

(and the purest way to experience the red elvises is perhaps to drop some acid and watch Six String Samurai.)

Two words:

Prodigy Medley.

With bonus recorder shredding.

This is missing The Ukrainians, who are the pioneers of shredding on balalaika. Their first album was in the early 90s. Key tracks: Bigmouth Strikes Again, Anarchy in the UK and Ace of Spades. They've got a deep repertoire.

Okay, i completely lost it after getting to their cover of ABBA's Happy New Year. Must flee the rabbit hole now, it goes too deep.

This is an excellent youtube rabbit hole to fall down and I just found their cover of Come Together.

I will admit as awesome as the above links are I was weirdly hoping this post was going to be for the movie, Song of the Balalaika. I've never seen the movie but I love the trailer.

When I was a kid, we had an LP of a famous Russian balalaika orchestra. They fucking rocked. It's a cool sounding instrument. This guy is pretty amazing as well.
