Is this a joke? If not, are the software makers going to put these hackers on their payroll?

Is this a joke too? Hackers ARE criminals, and have been viciously persecuted by software companies, even when they are unbelievably kind and responsible.

Examining the insides of software or hardware and finding bugs nobody else has seen makes you a hacker. Reporting them to the right people so as to make the technology better for the consumers makes you a responsible person. Exploiting the same holes for your personal gain or mischeif would be what makes you a criminal.
