The age group: 18-35
The high %ages are from people having tried the drug at some point in their life.
It's a UK survey. Everybody tries the stuff. It's as common as a cup of tea where I live. posted by i_cola at 6:23 AM on August 1, 2002
Well okay...maybe if it were the cops it would surprise me.
would it really?
Cannabis use is so prevalent here (uk and ireland), I don't know one person who has never tried it, except family (who I think all smoke it except my grandparents, but you never know...) posted by twistedonion at 6:44 AM on August 1, 2002
my code suddenly makes so much more sense.
Heh. Some people (I once worked with) do do it at the office.... posted by mattpfeff at 6:51 AM on August 1, 2002

No way! Cops have the quality dank rolling in from all the busts they make, I'd be suprised if it wasn't one of the highest categories. posted by statusquo at 7:23 AM on August 1, 2002
I suppose upon further reflection on the word tried it might not actually surprise me all that much. I think I would still be surprised if 92% of cops had tried it while on the job (although I know that this caveat isn't applied to the IT workers of the survey). As to anyone's personal life, nothing surprises me. posted by aclevername at 7:36 AM on August 1, 2002

Wouldn't surprise me if they'd tried it. But not use it, they are random tested a hell of allot. Positive tests result in instant dismissal. (I come from a family of cops, for my sins) posted by MintSauce at 7:43 AM on August 1, 2002

I think you'll find that over here it's far less common and probably a lot harder (due to our advanced human rights laws) for employers to impose mandatory drug testing so I would imagine that the use of recreational drugs is far more prevelant, even in professions such as the Police and Army.
Although I might be proved wrong here by my door being smashed in at 3am and some gentle persuasion with a night stick..... posted by andyHollister at 9:49 AM on August 1, 2002
lots of people smoke pot. get over it. posted by quonsar at 9:56 AM on August 1, 2002
About 22% of those questioned who work in the teaching profession said they tried the drug on almost a daily basis.
How do you try a drug on a DAILY basis? You either use it, or you don't. posted by Decypher at 10:28 AM on August 1, 2002
I was waiting for them to also say that 130% of people in the music industry does so.
