Whenever I enter the minimum two letters, I always get at least one real word. I feel like Charlie Brown right now. posted by Eamon at 9:56 AM on August 2, 2002
I think there is a new game to be played here:
enter in any combination of letters, and your score is the number of EXTRA letters it tags on to your root combination.
I entered "grum" and got "grumscaporialitegramewooted". That's 27-4=23 points.
Aposty gets 30 points for pancakeniontograplatenclishooristions. That's going to be tough to beat. posted by grum@work at 10:51 AM on August 2, 2002
I got 33 for frobleardepoliarannessatendatissmely from "frob" posted by jammer at 11:20 AM on August 2, 2002
metafilterednessesseagionmoseculanshnessly for metafilter...
and nathroadsorrhogorineedisannentramms for my own name... 31. Damn.
Also got "nathers" (which I hope no one calls me, ever) and "nathful" (the adjective our nation needs in these troubled times). posted by nath at 11:30 AM on August 2, 2002
"Syntactically," rather than "syntatically," which may have something to do with fake tattoos, not sure. posted by luriete at 11:30 AM on August 2, 2002

The same concept of a markov chain has been applied to whole words instead of letters.
A professor named Bruce Ellis wrote a program to do this and named it Mark V Shaney. He then pulled a famous prank where he passed Mark off as a real person on a usenet group, spitting out semi-coherent "thoughts" based on the text already there. posted by O9scar at 3:14 PM on August 2, 2002
I have discovered the secret of world peace. For any touchy international situation, simply enter the the interested parties and presto! a bloodless winner.
For example:
palestine -> palestinethinfrandificaptott (10 points)
israel -> israelevensatiatorinesupatorier (19 points)
Funny how many of the words look like real words when you first look at them, until your brain computes that nothing is in the right order. posted by dg at 6:57 AM on August 3, 2002
