Canlis Community College Curriculum

Canlis Community College was an education-meets-dining pop-up Canlis, a long-time Seattle fine dining mainstay, put on to keep busy over the last year.

Now the videos are online (Youtube Playlist) and free, so everyone can learn everything from soba from Kamonegi's Mutsuko Soma, pot brownies with Goodship's Jody Hall, Seattle Black history with LaNesha DeBardelaben, baking with the WSU Bread Lab, aerobics with the PNW Ballet, and much more.

Around for 70+ years, Canlis is also known for the Canlis salad.

Oh, cool, it's admirable how Canlis uses its position to be experimental (and I assume, keep its people employed and creative).

I'm looking forward to doing the aerobics class tomorrow.

Thank you, I spent probably more time trying to figure out how to work a reference to that in before ultimately passing it up than on the rest of the writeup. (but having it as a comment is much better)

Canlis has seriously kept us sane this past year. We were big restaurant diners and I feel like a large percentage of our previous dining-out budget has just gone to Canlis boxes every once in a while as a treat. They provided most of the courses for our small nuclear-family Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. We did Friday night livestream bingo for awhile and also would put on their piano-player livestream at dinnertime sometimes. It's actually been sort of lovely because Canlis used to be sort of a once-a-year date night where it'd just be me and my husband dressed up and we'd have to find a sitter and try to get a reservation around our anniversary or whatever, but having family meal boxes means the kids get to try fancy food too.

Don't get me wrong...I cannot WAIT to get back to the dressy, magic-valet, once-a-year Canlis dining experience. But having Canlis meals at home has been a real bright spot in our year and I will genuinely miss them when they're gone. If you live within striking distance and can afford a Canlis family meal, seriously, give it a shot before the pandemic's over. It's a really nice, special experience.

Whenever I see restaurants whining about our very lax restrictions here, I think of Canlis pivoting to a burger drive through at the beginning of the pandemic and I feel a little less empathy for the whiners. I’m far from Seattle now, but from everything I’ve seen Canlis has handled this whole thing admirably.
