Okaaaaaaaaaaaay Daaaaaaaaaavey! After a 31 year absence, Davey and Goliath are making their return to television. It's funny, I had no idea it was religious programming until years after I stopped watching it. Oh, and this news explains explains those great Mountain Dew ads...

I'm so excited about this....and i love that "we got hosed!"..."oooohhhh daaaavvveeey" in the ad! I had no idea it was religious either, until pretty recently. It always looked like nothing else on tv.

i liked that simpsons spoof a while back ... "for to blow up the abortion clinic ..." spot on.

That Simpson's parody was nice, but it coudn't beat MadTV's "Son of Goliath" short from a few years ago. "Daaaaavey. It's time to cleanse the city."

ahhh that brings back such fond memories of my drug addled youth...! we used race home after clubbing all saturday night to watch it at 6am on sundays... it always seemed to trigger a second peak 8-) we knew it was a religious show tho'... maybe because we don't have that wacky christian family values thing going on in canada...? the show's agenda was so thinly veiled, it stuck out like a sore and terribly funny thumb.

I was brought up in such an agnostic environment that I was oblivious to most religious imagery growing up. I remember there was this cruddy evangelical cartoon about a flying, time-traveling house (I know, right?) on ... TBN or one of its kindred networks ... and I sometimes used to catch it and wonder why the house's occupants (a professor, a boy, a girl and a robot, if memory serves me ... I *know*, right?) only ever seemed to go to the Middle East during Roman times.

I think the cartoon you're referring to was called Dr. Snuggles, donkeyschlong. It was Dutch and...um...out there.

Dr. Snuggles was a great show! He did have a talking house, but it was full of talking animals (and talking drugs!) His stories revolved around bizarre magic lands - not ancient rome. "I love that show."

It's interesting that the image of that ultra clean-cut Davey is being resurrected to hawk such a hyper caffeinated sugar buzz. Should we expect the Evangelical Lutheran Church Davey version2, to be a bit more "with it" than the original from the United Lutheran Church in America. Will the new Davey skateboard or bike his suburban paradise. Is he hacking his homework cranked on Dew, or will he lie on the floor with notebook and pencil. The original always left me with the sticky feeling of syrupy sweet guilt. Oh Daaaavey whatcha wanna do that silly bad thing for,.....oops,... but Jesus loves you anyway. Who knows what this stuff does to impressionable minds. I wonder if the new voice talent will leave me feeling like I felt with Bugs after Mel died.

i detested that show even (especially?) as a super-Catholic seven year old, though i was riveted by the characters' mouths. the animation is so jerky that the mouths like *disappear* in between words, and then when anyone says an "oo" sound this hideous welt of red clay would ooze upward. or maybe i was just sitting too close to the TV. i particularly remember the Easter episode, with the little clay boulder rolling away from the tomb...i guess it's still better than Veggie Tales.
