"Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday he'd like to serve a second term ‘‘if the president's willing and if my wife approves." " Never mind getting elected. I'd like to beleive that the reporter, not the Veep, just forgot to note that detail.
This post was deleted for the following reason:
"I've got the doctor following me around every place I go. Literally when I get on the elevator there's a guy there with a black bag."
Um... I can't tell if this reassures me or makes me nervous.

So a reporter wrote a story about whether or not Cheney is in good enough shape to serve out a second term, and you're upset because it wasn't really a story about the election? Aren't those two different, albeit related, stories?

Reminds me of the story about the guy who shook GWB's hand somewhere and told him: "I don't think you're doing a good job." What was Bush's answer?
"Who cares what you think."
[No kidding. I know a link wouldn't hurt here, but I read this in New Yorker a while back, one of their "First X Hundred Days in Office" quizzes on the back page.]

Find a news story that is somehow related to someone or something you dislike, add your vague political opinion and post it to Metafilter, hoping for a thread full of vitriol. Voila! Instant personal weblog with a huge reader base. I mean, we certainly haven't had this discussion 400 times in the last year or so or anything...

I don't understand why Cheney's health is even an issue. It's a total red herring.
We live in a democratic republic, the system can easily replace any official, he's quite expendable and has a long line of successors, the only loss would be symbolic.

What's he supposed to say..."I'd like to serve a second term, assuming we get reelected, because we really suck!"
Wouldn't anyone serving 1 of potentially 2 terms assume they're going to be around for the 2nd term? It's called positive thinking...being optimistic...what the French call that certain...oh, I don't know what.

so this wasn't just something to post because it was (sorta) humorous (nevermind the merits of that)? this is another 'slam Bush-Cheney' attempt?

Now I have glorious visions of William Shatner sending Cheney off on a mission where he is gruesomely killed by a salt-devouring beast.

I have to wonder if Bush will remain silent about his VP prospects or if he will come out right away and keep Cheney on the team...

Does Cheney even have a chance? There's no way he can run for President at the end of his prognosticated 2nd term as VP--he'd be 237 years old. So won't the Republicans boot him out in favour of the dude that is destined to succeed Dubya? (OK, so I'm kidding about the link, but otherwise I don't think Cheney has a prayer.)

maybe he should just worry about doing something decent this term first.

Hey owillis, don't let muckster's threadjacking distract you, this was supposed to be a perfectly good Cheney-bash thread without substance.
