That's an excellent ringtone, sammyo. I too would often rather groove to my ringtone than talk to people. Mine is Cyriak's Cycles. As Seen On TV MetaFilter!!

I had no idea De La Soul wrote a song about Pizza Hotline.

I use that one for a particular caller (I believe everyone should get a unique ringtone). Then one day I was put on hold by a company that uses that for their hold music. When someone picked up, I mentioned the fact but they had no idea what I was talking about.

Sorry to miss your call. I was enjoying the pocket vibration.

The concept is a bit derivative of the Turn Down For What video, with the infectious dancing followed by collapse thing, but it was quite well done.

Sammyo, I had the same thing tone for years! Thanks for reminding me! Now I'm going to change it back to that. I also had the Electric Mayhem band (muppets) Can You Picture That at one point. My phone would ring with Doctor Teeth saying "OH YEAH!!!"

Cool! Lately I've been rocking out to this as my ringtone: Portal 2 OST Volume 2 - Halls Of Science 4 [soundtracks download]

My ringtone has been a sample from Beck's Cellphone's Dead since, well, November 2007 I guess. Actually, I have at least 5 versions based on that riff (and the Headhunter's Chameleon it seems to be sampled from) for different people. I doubt I could figure out how to do it again now, but each iPhone seems to carry the ringtones along.

Dude by the car is intentionally looking like Ron Mael, or am I missing something?

Mine is Yakety Sax, which never fails to crack me up, since it turns every phone call into a potential Benny Hill Show moment. Other tones in occasional rotation:

- Closing theme of Space: 1999, Season 2
- part of the opening theme to The Prisoner
- the jangly guitar opening to The Seeker

That was a blast! I loved how it kept playing with body horror and horror movie imagery while remaining thoroughly committed to ridiculous fun. I also like the implication that the dance is going be awkward until you give into it. I know the oontz oontz isn't everyone's cup of tea and it's not always mine, but it worked for me this time -- I'm going to have this in my head all evening

Mine the intro to We Are The Robots since, erm, when you could sideload an m4a to an iPhone, that same year. (Much to the effect of the kids in this throwback video.)

My ringtone is the full modem handshake, including touch-tones.

Hard to dance to, and really confusing to those that hear it.

I turned my ringer off. Too many times I was somewhere that it ringing would be a problem, and with ADHD I just can't be sure to remember to do it when I need to. It buzzes though and that's still irritating, but quiet enough that I can ignore it. Generally, I liked the old landline phone ringtones, and this or this.

i'm so confused by this. but then again i didn't have the patience to watch more than a minute of the video so.. that's probably why. just curious if i'm the only one that found it to be kinda like fingernails on a chalkboard? but... was that the point? or maybe there's some big reference i don't know going on here..

I think it's just a fun and really clever, well-done music video. I found a number of things compelling. The faux-horror cinematography, the incredibly impressive movements by the dancers that made the dancers seem like their limbs were possessed, and the catchiness of the music (YYMV on this one -- if you're allergic to this type of music, nothing about this is going to work for you). If there was a "message" I think it's pretty much the message of a lot of dance music -- turn off your analytical brain and let your body start grooving to the beat. I think the notion that someone might be too busy to answer a call because they did just that with the ringtone speaks to that, as do the visuals. And that's my plate of beans on this topic.

I liked the song, but couldn’t finish watching because it was a bit too body-horror-y for me. But I’m glad I saw it.

My ringtone has been the opening music to A-Ha’s Take On Me since the very first phone I ever got that made creating custom ringtones possible (I saw that video on MTV when I was a young teen (pre-teen)? and got to the record store right when it opened the day the album came out so I could get it, I was so hooked). Now the song seems to have suddenly become popular again, I hate feeling like I’m just following a trend, but it still makes me so happy every time it plays...

Heh. For years I've been using an edit I made of the theme music in the Aperture Science faux investment ads from the Portal 2 launch campaign.

It's got such a rich, pleased-with-itself startup chord, a bit of the retro "Breaking News!" dit dit dit, and a Netflix-style ba-dum which works equally well as an unresolved hand-off to begin the conversation or resolving back to the beginning chord if it needs to ring again. It makes every phone call seem like An Event! An Important Announcement From Our Great Leader!

You people who have the end credits music of Buckaroo Banzai as a ringtone, don't people get annoyed when they call you and you say, "Hang on, I gotta go watch the end credits to Buckaroo Banzai. I'll call you back in five minutes."
