it wouldn't be an Elvis sighting without Billy Bob chiming in..

some guy around where I am claims that Elvis is still alive and that he is the doctor of Elvis

A guy gets fat for the last year of his life, and he is forever referred to as the fat guy? WTF? I don't care what anyone says, elvis is an indelible part of our cultural history. He's not going anywhere. long after you and I are dead and forgotten, people will still be listening to Elvis. I have never understood why people who don't like something always go out of there way to shit on it. Does it make you feel superior? why not save your energy for something constructive, and let people enjoy Elvis Day, or whatever the fuck, without having to deal with someone else's condescension.

Sorry for the rant, but crap like this get's me all shook up!

Thank you...thank you very much.

My post was not aimed at anyone in particular, I was simply responding to the general tone of the thread so far.

What can you do? Elvis was so big (no pun intended) that he's bound to touch a nerve with everybody. Some people think he embodied everything that was right with America, some people feel that he embodied everything wrong. Like it or not, the man's been deified in this country to some extent.

My favorite Elvis: Tortelvis...

i'm not a big fan, but i do have to acknowledge his influence on the world. He's been dead for 25 years and he still brings in $37 million a year. That's impressive.

Not to mention the fact that he spawned three recent metafilter threads [1, 2, 3]. Bob Hope is still alive, and he should be so lucky.
