OK, I'm sure this is a major rules violation, but I can't find a link for this. I am poor google-miner, though. From reading this link below, I found myself incensed. I am not whining about legitimate concerns stemming from 9/11....but damn-- (more inside)

This post was deleted for the following reason:

--there are some stupid, shitty, petty things being done in the sacred name of the Terror Attacks that ridicule the seriousness of the event. I am torn between sticking to my my civil rights guns, and howling for there to be some kind of societal reprisal for those who invoke something so serious to justify sloth, stupidity, or misdeed. Soul Train's response is in this gray area. Also the USAir flight attendant who told me (straightfaced) that USAir no longer gave out pillows ",,,since the tragedy of September 11th." Or the Food Emporium on 8th Ave, who told me that the public restrooms were no longer open "...due to concerns about international terrorists." What, they might try to shit the city to the ground? The pizza place near my parent's also no longer delivers to their street since the Blow to American Freedom.

Look, you want to close your bathroom or you're out of pillows, fine. I think Atta has enough on his head without pointing the finger in these cases. It disrespects the event. Anyone else get one of these smug, glib, falsehoods that patriotism/decency/security forbides you to call out?

Matt, I know this doesn't contain a link, so if it must be culled from the herd, understood. it's just...damn, that irks me.

Deep breaths, umberto. We all feel this way from time to time. But this isn't really the place for it.

And I don't mean that to be shitty or petty. It's just a straight forward violation of the most basic rules of this site.

I sincerely hope you find the means to deal with the anger this causes in you.

Sorry everyone...sorry. Once I got the spoon under my tongue I felt much better. Thanks Chef...

Maybe Matt can transplant your comments into the other thread when he deletes this one (which he will).

But before he does, yeah the bathrooms in Montgomery Bart station have been closed with a note saying it's due to heightened security concerns...my ass (pardon the pun)

Based on omberto's response to the link posted, I guess I must be totally clueless - isn't this SoulTrain's rebuttal to the petition to remove the Lady of Soul entertainer of the year award given to Ashanti? Who give a flip what Don Cornelius has to say?

That's true.

While this thread, remains: check out, that comma use in the, linked page. It's like listening, to someone who, just, climbed some stairs and is out, of breath.

I'm going to admit to total ignorance about this subject. Could someone please provide a link that will elucidate what this petition they're responding to is about, and how it's significant? I don't know who Ashanti is, or what the Lady of Soul award signifies (though I guess I can infer; it still doesn't explain this).

For them to actually call the viewers opinions and voices excessive and unfounded and then copare their voice to terrorism really distrubs me. Like are we supposed to sit and shut up for the rest of our lives after 9/11? I didn't write a note to SoulTrain.com for their choice in the award, but I sure as hell wrote them one for their response.

Damn, I'm probably gonna be labeled as having nothing better to do. Oh well.

Shadowkeeper,

Your punctuation reminds, me of how much, I hated reading text, set inside a blink, tag.

As for invoking 9/11, I'm siding with umberto. I first can not believe that Soul Train took this tact with their response. So what if their ratings numbers are bigger than the number of people on the petition. They tend to forget that the very people who signed the petition are the people who care enough about their product to raise their concerns.

By invoking 9/11 in the manner in which they did they are basically pointing out that in today's world their product has little to no value. If you care who wins their Lady of Soul award at all, then you have nothing better to do with the precious time they all have left on Earth. Of course, the same can be said of the producers and everyone working at Soul Train. What have these people done to make the world safer from terrorism? Are the show's producers et al trading in their SUVs for hybrids? Are they reducing their dependence on oil at all?

Of course not, they are using terrorism to cover for their poor decision of who won the Lady of Soul award. So, if you are at the Montgomery Bart station and looking for a place to use the restroom, please note that the Soul Train people have already covered themselves in shit.

These folks need to get off the Soul Train and get on the ClueTrain.

Matt, don't delete this post, as I think umberto's comments about 9/11 fear mongering, even at this petty level, needs discussion.

I agree, quonsar. Anger is a valid part of the grieving process.

I think there's the suggestion in the text from Cornelius that these 18,000 people who signed the petition should get a life, in light of the new world order post 9/11. The whole get a life argument aside, I can empathize with umberto's feelings toward people that believe we should have all changed our attitudes after the events of a year ago.

Yes, it was tragic, but that doesn't mean that we should blithely subsume our opinions to people that believe that a corporate shill like Ashanti has anything resembling "Soul." It's too bad that internet petitions mean diddly-squat in the real world.

moral: it is a far better thing to post a slightly off-topic comment in an existing thread, than create a linkless thread of your own.
