How to make money off terrorism. This outfit will e-mail you "near real-time notices about terrorism related news and events as a free public service" and expects 50,000 to 100,000 subscribers. According to their news-release page, "when subscribership reaches significant levels the email alerts will be an effective advertising medium for in-house efforts as well as outside advertisers." As in, for example, "Alert: there has been a biological warfare attack. This message sponsored by Clearasil Anti-Bacterial Soap."

uh. Aren't there a wealth of other services that already do this for free?

not through email, maybe, but there are dozens, probably hundred, of websites, TV channels and radio stations that already give near-realtime coverage of breaking events.

yes, i think he's called the attorney general. why, i don't know WHAT i'd have done without warning of that dirty radioactive bomb padillo was preparing.

If they can combine this with Bronco Blanco Watch, then I could get behind this 100 percent.

What's the beef? Terrorism sells cars ("keep America rolling"), and Cantor-Fitzgerald didn't have any problem whoring the tragedy to fatten their own wallets.

Business as usual.

why am i still not getting the whole "damn cantor-fitzgerald" campaign? i saw the ads, i recognized their loss (about 66% of their entire workforce, wasn't it?), i saw nobody in a clown suit or otherwise shaming the company or taking undue liberties like these spam mavens. and i was moved.

what were they supposed to do? go back to business as usual without a single mention of a loss that everybody knows? no, you acknowledge your loss and carry on.

and now i shall duck to avoid the onslaught.... duck!

from the look of the website this is a totally, utterly, profoundly cynical, cheap, exploitative, dumb, nasty enterprise, and nothing else.

This can't be legit. There's no yellow light on the homepage.

Uh, yes.

Or I guess you could hire an advertising agency to produce a series of commercials that would run nationwide to capitalize on the deaths of your employees and solicit business for your company.

I'm sure that's more tasteful...and moving.

foldy, you hate it when people go out to make money when there hasn't been a tragedy.

perhaps thats because most "making money" these days involves misrepresentation and deception.

Everyone is lying to you, and making money off of it! The ice cream vendor, the kid cutting the grass on your lawn, Mr. Clean, the Vietnamese immigrant cooking your food at Saigon Buffet, the guy named Gary who just hung your drywall, and especially, those evil people at Google who make money off of a free service by advertising! Lies, damnable lies, I tell you! The seek nothing but to destroy you and eat your children, after you've handed over your pennies!

Damn them, damn them all to hell. But there's no such thing as hell, it was just a clever marketing campaign. You see, you don't really even exist, you only think you do, because businesses are busy lying to you so that they can steal your imaginary cash!

Also, providing a free service which provides news of a specific category via email is truly, the Root of All Evil (or did Wal-Mart trademark that one already?). If that weren't bad enough, using advertising dollars to pay the people who provide this evil service, are then, evil2! Cubed, even. Those evil, malignant bastards are a cancer upon Society.

Holy fucking shit people, give it a rest. It's just email.
