For you Friday aural pleasures.....

Some links to my favorite nu jazz/nu soul/broken beats/samba/hip-hop web casts.

Gilles Peterson - Of course my man would be listed first. I can't spout out enough praise for this guy, so I will not try to. His radio show airs live on BBC Radio 1:Urban on Wednesdays from Midnight to 2am (GMT) and there is a web cast. You can listen to the most recent show archived, but the sound quality doesn't compare to the stream for the live show.

Jazzanova - Amazing producers, remixers, & of course DJ's. Their web cast is always a real treat. It happens every other week, although it will definitely be less frequent as they are starting up their US tour very soon.

Patrick Forge - His Cosmic Jam radio show has supposedly been going on for 12 years now (since the days when Kiss 100 was a pirate signal). Sadly there are no archived shows, so you have to catch the broadcast when it happens live. It's every Sunday from midnight to 2am (GMT).

Milk Audio - A VERY cool site with lots of archived web casts. Just to drop some names..... Zero Db, John Kong, Mr. Scruff, Dublex Inc, Chateau Flight, Jazzanova, Recloose, Rainer Truby, Fauna Flash, and also some great sets by the DJ's associated with the site (Felix and Gani).

Groovetech - Groovetech always has great DJ's spinning live. And you can actually watch them spin too (via Real Player). They archive almost every set too. You can search the archives and check out Ian O'Brien (search "Ian OBrien"), Jazzanova, Alex Attias, London Elektricity, Recloose, and a lot more.

I hope this makes your Friday a bit more enjoyable. Just sharing the things I love (that also happen to be free).

This post was deleted for the following reason:

5 bucks this get axed. this is metafilter, not a place to list your favorite disk jockeys.

Rattmouth, keep in mind that taking up an entire screen with paragraphs of information tends to piss people off. Next time, try to keep your post short and to the point; if you want to include all this background, do it inside the thread, not on the Front Page.

By the way -- Rattmouth as in "Round and Round?"

And in Next Friday's thrilling installment, we get to see Rattmouth's favourite website top 10. I can't wait.

Although I'm new here (first ever comment), I can't help being disappointed at a music post. There's just so much of that stuff elsewhere.

This definately strikes me as something for a personal blog, not taking up half the front page of Metafilter. I'm not trying to rank on you, Rattmouth. But I think clavdivs has a pretty safe bet there.

Hah ha! This site is just loaded with negativity. Some folks just wait for an opportunity to take a stab.

Admittedly, this is my first post to the main page, and as soon as I posted it I was thinking "Geez I should have made the post much smaller." But there is no Edit function, so the preview is all I had.

Anyway, I see very little difference from someone saying "Here look at this because it looks cool," and me saying "Here, look at this because it sounds cool." But I will go with the flow.

This is about the worst day on MeFi I can remember. Matt is NOT going to be a happy camper when he comes by.

Well, there are music posts, then there are music posts...

Thanks for the links, Rattmouth. If you'd added a little context, that would allow for discussion, it would have made a better post. I wish I had something to contribute. But Skallas recommended super-jukebox Epitonic the other day and I've been listening to little else. Love it!

Funny how all these posts are one day after the "what makes a good post?" threads in Meta.

There are a ridiculous amount of radio stations out there that seem to cater for every niche possible, and I keep finding more brilliant obscure websites and applications for radio. In people's humble (!) opinions, where is a good place for recommendations then? (Admittedly a link to radio1 on MeFi is a little mainstream...)

You Old-Time MeFites are cruel!

Accurate, though.

As a newbie here, maybe I will peruse MetaTalk and About MetaFilter and such before I do FPPs (Oops! Matt hates "FPP." Front page posts... ) Thus do I hope to avoid the ire of people even more gleefully snarky than myself.

(HINT!)

Don't feel bad, Rattmouth. If your post gets axed, people will forget it happened shortly. And I will still check out your fave webcasts when the deleted FPP (oops!) still exists on LoFi.

There's just so much to MetaRemember here. But it's fun.

While I agree that an edit function would be nice, that is why preview exists.

Naked blog aside, most people around here like music posts. We "negative" people aren't annoyed by the content, we're annoyed by the presentation. If you've been lurking around here for any amount of time, you should know that extra-long posts are not OK.

Rattmouth, meet MeFi. ;)
MeFi, meet Rattmouth, one of central North Carolina's most interesting djs (and a friend). Any one of these could have been the core of a cool shorter post, I think. Oh, and Miguel, epitonic *is* great.

soundofsuburbia, nice link, but wouldn't it be nice to have a site where loads of radio stations are listed by genre and rated and reviewed by the public? It would be easy to find obscure stations as well as mainstream ones... there could be a pick of the day... Hmmm (runs off to do some coding...)

Oops! Matt hates "FPP." Front page posts...

Posts. They're just posts. And these here are comments. The 'front page' is redundant.

Rattmouth, as me3dia says, it's not the content, it's the presentation. Your post is three hundred words and eight paragraphs long. Two full screens on 800x600 monitors. Whereas this:

Looking for aural pleasure? Try Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Patrick Forge, Milk Audio, Groovetech... webcasts of nu jazz/nu soul/broken beats/samba/hip-hop from today's top DJs. And they're free.

...is about 30 words. Same basic info and message.

If it's editing facilities you're after, why not compose your post in Notepad or Word first?
