Wild goose chase - "British wildlife experts are mourning the loss of Kerry the goose after tracking him by satellite all the way from Ireland to an Eskimo's kitchen in Arctic Canada." No, seriously.

It's no wonder Kerry got shot. How high could he possibly fly with a three thousand pound tracking device on his back?

That one sounds yummy Witty, but I think I'd prefer this one.

We have geese in our pond right now...I keep explaining to them that geese don't belong in Texas in the summer...but thus far, they're pretending they don't speak English. :) One of the geese has taken over a flock of ducklings...which is really kinda funny...this big ol Mother Goose and her armada of ugly ducklings. I hope the pictures turn out as funny as the real life situation. On the plus side, that's the only flock of ducks that hasn't lost a member to one of the rival male ducks. Seems the big ducks are all pretty afraid of the geese.

Nevertheless, a 4,500 mile migration is pretty damn impressive no matter what the species.

Someone told me geese mate for life. I've been afraid to eat goose because I always imagine its lonesome mate pining away.

They'd be easy pickings, though. We have a bunch of Canadian geese that form enormous, noisy Vs and migrate with much ceremony a whole quarter mile away to the race track. And then back again. I think of roast goose daily.

We prefer to be called Inuit which means 'the people' in our language of Inuktitut rather than Eskimo, which translates from Algonquin as 'raw meat eaters'. Unfortunately, the term Eskimo is more familiar with non-Inuit and gets tossed around as such.

I wonder if Austin, Hugh and Major Ruttledge will make it back. Also if any of the geese that fly over my parents house every year has one of those tracking devices.

It reminds me of the migration of monarch butterflies, travelling up to three thousand miles from Mexico to Canada.

it's like finding your lojacked car in the chop shop, sad... but kinda cool how accurate tracking devices are, like i wonder if in the future it'd be possible to stick a critter cam next to the homing beacon.

KathyK, if it makes you feel any better, here's one guy who knows that we should be using "Inuit" and no "Eskimo". Thank God for quality education in Montreal :)!
