Man they're great. I think I first tripped across the Regrettes with Hot a few years ago and I've appreciated everything I've heard since.

Itโ€™s their Fox on the Run for me.

Me too! I very much prefer their cover to the Sweet original. "Hey Now" is fun, too.

They go through drummers and bassists like Spinal Tap tho.

Well, to be fair, I get the impression Maxx and Sage were just coming out high school with Lydia in 2018-ish, and might've decided that the life of a touring musician wasn't what they had signed up for in 2015. So we got Feel Your Feelings Fool with them before the lineup changed for How Do You Love, more or less?

It took me a while to get into Further Joy - it's a departure from what they're known for, I think? But it's also more mature and self-assured.

This song got me and my kid into the Regrettes -- she was a big Ham fan back then.

In a quirk of fate that worked out well for us but not so great for Lydia Knight, she got appendicitis and had to postpone the show we originally had tickets for. We would've had to pass on that one, anyway, because COVID numbers were screamingly high. Fingers crossed for the rescheduled show....

They are so fun.

We saw them play in SF in 2018 at The Chapel. It was great! The crowd was super young (as you'd assume), the only person in the crowd we knew was there to accompany their kid. Lydia had to instruct the crowd on moshing best practices, and was all "girls to the front" about it which gave me warm fuzzies.

One more from The Regrettes that's really lovely in that early pandemic, mid-lockdown kind of way:

What Am I Gonna Do Today?

Yeah, that cover of "Fox on the Run" is how I first came across them. I think my favorite song of theirs might still be "Picture Perfect" because:
  1. Fun, clever lyrics
  2. Great dirty guitar tone
  3. It's the song that got Lydia a co-writing credit with Ray Davies, because it quotes (melody and lyrics) from Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It", which itself quotes (lyrics only) from "You Really Got Me", and I guess songwriting credits just accumulate...?
(I saw the original lineup back in 2018. I was the man in the back who screamed "everyone attack!" during their cover of "Ballroom Blitz".)

Don't ask me why, but teenage angst about friendship hits this mid-fifties dude right in the feels every time. Bronze

Terrific. Just what I needed this morning. Now to all the links... thanks, MollyRealized!
