Just what you've been waiting for... or maybe not! "Due to overwhelming public demand, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have decided to use the site of the World Trade Center for America's number one theme park, Twin Towers over Ground Zeroâ?¢!" Since long before Jonathan Swift, writers (and others) have used absurdity to spur discussion and spark protest. Sick of all the 9/11 glurge and tacky commercialism (1, 2, 3), a local resident continues the tradition.

Oh, well, 9/11 happens to be my birthday. Luckily I haven't owned a T.V. for years so I'll get to miss the worst of the rehash. What a drag it is getting old...

Zygoticmynci: Other 9/11 Birthday alums/ sufferers include Kristy McNichol and Harry Connick, Jr. There's an interesting article about this phenomenon on Salon from another fellow sufferer.

Kliuless: There's lots of Disney and Starbucks in NYC these days...oh, and of course, a bit of the old (and new) ultra-violence. Ah, me brothers!

Really neat link, Modgoddess. Ludacris, Moby, Amy Madigan, Leo (not Jason) Kottke, Mickey Hart, Phil Jackson, Brian De Palma, and the fabulously named Nikki Knockers all had 9/11 birthdays, according to the IMDb. Also O. Henry and D.H. Lawrence, if we're including dead people.

Jimmie Davis (former Louisiana governor and author of "You Are My Sunshine"), astronaut Bob Crippen, Salvador Allende, Nikita Krushchev, Jessica Tandy, Lorne Greene, Robert Service, and Peter Tosh all also died on previous September 11ths.

And it's Neil Simon's wedding anniversary.

Htuttle, isn't it tho...i couldn't believe it when i saw it and i can just picture people:
"Betty, wouldn't this font just be perfect for the cover of the community newsletter this week?"

and Mod, thanks for the links--i read somewhere that some people are seriously trying to put a sort-of "hall of heroes" animatronic thing downtown near the site as a permanent attraction.

Thanks a lot, that's very interesting. As clubs to be in go it's hardly the most fortunate, but if I'm in it with someone called Nikki Knockers then surely it can't be all bad?
