I'm off to a conference today to discuss the EU and Asia one year on, in the European Parliament which should be very interesting indeed. Almost every Asian and Middle East ambassador will be present . What are you going to do today?

I'm going to sleep late, then twiddle about with various projects I'm working on, and unplug my television in order to avoid dementia.

cross-post with other thread before I saw this one

I for one, am going to spend it like any other day. Probably because otherwise.. the terrorists have already yadda yadda yadda. Oh, but I'm going to watch Metafilter burn in numerous flamewars, most of which have already started. I will also observe how quickly Matt can delete threads by monitoring lofi.mefi.

I wonder if everybody will break out the flags and put those stickers back on their cars. Ooo and the shirts! I so loved the patriotic shirts last september.

Seriously though, I think I'll go get some Smothered Covered Chunked Scattered Topped and Diced Waffle House Hash Browns.

(whoa, yahoo is greyed out today, wasn't expecting that. looks 500% better than it's usual hideous self. should stay that way permanently)

i have the day to myself so i'm gonna hang out with catfood, who also has the day off, and try to get working on some of my website projects. plus i'm going to make ma bell all that much richer and place a lot of long distance calls, including one to a friend who's celebrating her 1st wedding anniversary and another who just had her 1st child a few weeks ago. will be avoiding tv and newspapers entirely, but will be checking in on mefi periodically for the same devilish reasons Stan is. oh and will be listening to those superman radio eps...

but before anything, i'm going to start the day with a big stack of blueberry pancakes.

Driving my other half to work so I can have the car, doctor's appointment and only one web client appointment in the afternoon, and only over the phone -- not sure I could handle much more client interaction than that today... Also trying to stay away from any television exposure -- don't want to be bombarded with over-hyped media coverage. I don't want to go through all the same feelings I did last year; for weeks the smallest things could set me off and get me all emotional and teary-eyed.
Last year was the first time I had been to visit NYC and we got stuck in the tunnel in traffic and couldn't believe a major artery was so "small". We were actually commenting on how the hell would people escape if there was a major catastrophe in the city... so when it happened, it hit too close to home.
On top of that, it was only the day before that my other half and I had been flying home from Atlanta to Montreal, one of our first trips together in several years. I think that because we came so close to being caught up in the whole chaos a thousand miles from home; it hit me extra hard.

It's not that I don't want to remember, it's that remembering hurts too much for me...

i'm off to work - it's not clear who else will be there, and at what time, because there'll probably be barricades on some streets.

the military coup here in chile was on september 11, 1973. until this year, it was a national holiday. there were also protests on sunday.

Checking email for the day, then off to run errands.

After that, going to set up the outdoor theatre that I run and show a free movie for anybody who wants to show up from the neighborhood at dusk.

Staying away from all other media for the rest of the day.
