I am soooo going to be downloading unauthorized rips of this movie next week (maybe they're available on p2p networks right now). Sounds like a hoot, though I wonder what Hollywood will do about these derivative works, maybe introduce a bill banning all derivatives of anything ever created in Hollywood?

I don't know if any of you guys have seen Bollywood movies, but a good rule for a drinking game would be that you have to drink everytime some girl dances in the trees to tease a male pursuer.

The biggest hit of the year in India has been Raaz, or The Revelation, which is a reworking of the supernatural thriller What Lies Beneath. Eesh. I can't believe someone remade this. And that it was a hit! Goodness, that movie was dreadful. Poo, even.

I'm just pissed the crummy little bastard had to go an release five different versions of the DVD. What a total shit. Who does he think he is, Marvel, DC, or Image w/ their variant covers of comic books. All the studios are doing this now. DVD special editions and the regular edition! Suck some more ass Hollywood. It's all about the $$$$.

So why is a cornball Bollywood film musical 5 times more expensive to make than the original Hollywood flick, indie or no? Can't be the labor costs, or unions... Well, first of all, that was $9 million Canadian, which is not a straight-across trade at the best of exchange rates. Second of all, Reservoir Dogs cost 1.2 million when it was made a decade ago. Surely there is some inflation afoot. Not to mention costumes, choreographers, musicians...

Eesh. I can't believe someone remade this. And that it was a hit! Couple years back, Bollywood's biggest runaway blockbuster smash hit was a flick called Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which the director described as his attempt to cross Beverly Hills 90210 and Archie comics. Only set in an elite Bombay college. And featuring several massive song-and-dance set pieces. And a romance in the hills. And it was 3.5 hours long. I thought it was very good - by comparison to other, more formulaic, more traditional Bollywood films. Which is to say: Bollywood's got its own logic. Better not to try to understand it.
