Yeah, I never meant it as a posthumous tribute, yet everyone assumes the poor guy's dead already (I'm reasonably sure he's still alive..?).
(old stop-frame animators never die, their movements just get jerkier and less realistic...)

HA! well my bad, I had assumed wrong! But knowing that he's alive now, I wonder how he reacted to his reference in Monsters, Inc.

Let me just shift into name-drop mode here for a minute...
One of my best friends is an animator at Pixar, and from time to time they have guest speakers. Hayao Miyazaki recently, Dave Goelz from The Muppets a while back, and a couple of months ago, Ray Harryhausen himself. I never heard about any details from his talk, but I think once can assume that means he was pleased.
