Save me, Jebus!In the episode Missionary: Impossible, Homer is sent overseas to be a missionary. En route he cries out "Save me, Jebus!" The gag is, of course, that Homer is the last person in the world who should be acting as a missionary (that is, assuming that anyone should in the first place). Well leave it to the good people of the Internet to take this sacrilicious ball and run with it. And run. And run. In the spirit of good nerdliness, it behooves us to note that Jebus is, in fact, a real place.

as far as an old Simpsons goes ... is this supposed to always be new stuff? i thought that was more of a shelbyville / fark thing. I thought a digest of the jebus sites that have sprung up since then might be fun.

I'm fairly sure this is grounds for a burning at the stake, or something.

But since it seems to be my turn, here's the gist of the guidelines: if it's something others might be interested in, something they haven't seen before, and something that might elicit some intelligent discussion, post it. Otherwise, erm, don't.

i was always fascinated how these mini-memes spread themselves over the internet. This guy uses a perl script (whatever that is) to trace the usage of lots of memes through some google groups over the years, which includes the "all your bases" meme, but also includes lots i never heard of. (no pancakes either). Any websites i've seen all have a slant towards explaining the phenomenon of these memes in general, but don't actually give a definitive list of the more widespread ones. Any one got any suggestions of where to look? (link via Robot Wisdom)

obligatory simpsons reference: i'm not normally a praying man, but if you're up there Superman, this thread could really use some help right now.

Huh...I'm suprised none of you mentioned Jebus of Detroit, though you'd have to be up on your electronica trivia for that...

But as dimly I recall what I was taught in CCD class, the city of Jebus was named after one of Canaan's sons, who built a fortified settlement for one of the last remaining pre-isrealite tribes.
David's later overthrow of Saul prompted the former "Castle of Zion" into becoming the "City of David", known today as Jerusalem.

And as for condour75's spacing, I think he was trying
to make a clean break. Give 'em one.

This is an excellent plan. Trolling by design as community management.

Every day one could post one or more extremely inflammatory threads which brings out the worst in all participants. While fools waste their time in the decoy threads, civil discussion will be possible in the real threads.

Problem with this plan: I am not sophisticated enough to distinguish the red herring from the main course.

Focusyn is probably my second favourite. It's tough. I think Bart might have said something like that...maybe in the one where they go to sunday school and Bart asks the teacher, "if you're in hell burning forever, wouldn't you get used to it?"
