Want to sue some Terrorists? Put a Public Notice in your Classifieds! Seems like some folks have decided that while they are suing the terrorists, bin Laden, Mullah Omar, and the whole Taliban posse, they'll put public notices in their local classified sections asking bin Laden and crew to get in touch with their lawyers. What an idea.

Nice to know where 9/11 families are throwing the donated money.

That is, assuming they got it.

Errr ... y'all do know that notifications like these are legal requirements to fulfill before a lawsuit may proceed in court?

And qdot, the usual procedure for lawsuits like this is for the lawyer to claim a share of the proceeds (traditionally 1/3). It's not guaranteed, but the plaintiffs may not have paid a cent.

Dhartung, you are of course correct about the lawyers, though this is a large expense for a plaintiff's attorney, considering the fact that the defendants are judgement proof. In a case like this, the plaintiff's attorneys hope for a nice settlement before discovery; there's not much chance of a settlement .

This is good publicity for the attorneys, though, and the expense is probably worth it. After they receive a default judgement, they can advertise themselves as the 'lawyers so tough, we beat Bin Laden'!
