These are not your grandmom's type of crafts. Twice a year in NYC and Chicago, SOFA (Sculptural Objects and Functional Art) holds spectacular exhibits to showcase the best contemporary sculptors and craftspeople throughout the world. The Chicago show is coming up October 25-27. Even if you can't attend, why not browse through images of past shows and links to more than 85 participating galleries?

Another high-end craft show coming up is the Philadelphia Museum of Arts Craft Show, held yearly in November. Impressive and expensive art glass, art baskets, art clothing, art everything, from artists/craftspeople worldwide.

Yes! All Chi-town MeFi-ers should try SOFA out at least one year. I've gone the past four years and it's a great way to pack your head through lots of cool imagery and strange techniques. The glassware is astounding.

Nice! I would love to see this one in person, as I can't quite imagine how it looks from the other side, or even what the material is.
