And into the waiting arms of Liz Taylor.
They lived happily ever after...

That's pretty bold for a 75-year-old man. He's lucky he didn't break a hip.

Do Senators who have crappy flights threaten to stop the federal bailouts of the airlines?

(I guess if they had to jump they might . . . )

[Warner is] a railroad enthusiast who keeps a model of the Norfolk Southern locomotive in his Senate office...

Snicker. Chuckle. Guffaw.

The race for the senate here in Virginia is such a non-event, it's stunning to see the lengths some guys will go for a couple of inches of copy in the newspaper.

This is beyond NewsFilter. It's kind of NonNewsFilter

An attendant frantically tried to signal the train's engineer to stop, but Warner -- afraid that he would be heading to the District -- decided to jump.

Virginia senator leaps off train to save himself a trip to DC. It's a local in-joke that's funny at the national level, too.

While I don't agree with Warner's politics, I applaud his pluck and audacity. Even at such a slow speed, I don't believe I'd have the guts to jump from a moving train.

And let's be clear here - the article points out that Warner was in the midst of a trip that was rife with problems. As any good politician would, he saw a chance to make a dramatic point, and took advantage of it. He's not simply a senile old man who "missed his stop".

This is fantastic. I wish more news was like this. All of the news these days lately seems to be about cowards - snipers, Bush, etc... I'll take news of a seventyfive year old leaping from an Amtrak car anyday over what we normally have to ingest.
