...and it's already old news: Frost has conceded the race to Pelosi.

Sorry if it's an old link already, but I think the point is still valid.

Let me rephrase it. Is this a good political move?

Don't know. Why don't you ask that on some political discussion board while we share and talk about links to interesting new places on the web?

The Dems moving further to the left would be a gift to the GOP. Most voters identify themselves as either "weak partisans" or "non partisans," so by yeilding the middle to the GOP they are basically giving them the majority. . .

I think the main advantage for the Dems of a move to the left is to attract big money donors and activists - most of them are wingers anyway.

Of course, it's a good political move. And I'm not just saying that as a leftist. I remember someone saying many years ago, that given the choice between a Republican and a Republican, that the voters would pick the Republican every time. The Democratic leadership hasn't successfully explained why they would do a better a job than the Republicans or even how they differ substantively.

Opinion polls show pretty consistently that "lefty" concepts like concern for the environment, universal heath care and increasing the taxes on the rich, are pretty popular.

The nation under the GOP and among minorities has been moving steadily to the Right since Ronnie R, and there has been a slow but steady undoing of all FDR had put in place--for better or worse. The Dems tried to move to the Right (middle they called it) but this made apparent to the voters that both parties were, as Nader pointed out, nearly the same. And with a "war" mentality in place and the voters seemingly unconcerned with heavy and growing unemployment, massive budge dificit, lousy market, they went along with the commander-in-chief, given his vast experience of the military

I'm quite new to MeFi and am getting the feeling that there's general agreement here to avoid partisan topics. True?
