I've been doing some Kissinger reading in the last few weeks, following his appointment to head the inquiry into WTC intelligence gaps. Harper's published a two-part article (1,2) last year by Christopher Hitchens (author of the book linked above) presenting the case for his prosecution as a war criminal and for crimes against humanity. C-Span later held a panel discussion at the Nat'l Press Club with Hitchens, former members of the National Security Council, and a professor of international law. For those with less time on their hands, he comments more succinctly on Kissinger's appointment to head the 9/11 inquiry (or you could just see the movie).
The defenses I've seen so far the appointment don't refute the claims against Kissinger, but discuss the appropriateness and results of his actions. William Safire, who has had Kissinger breathing on the other end of his phone line, nonetheless says he's the right man for the job. I guess he's someone you want working with you rather than against you when you're trying to get your war on.

At least he has the common touch.
But seriously folks, this weasel who directly or indirectly orchestrated the murder of over one million Vietnamese and Cambodians, this arrogant Nobel Prize winning war criminal who set the scene for Pol Pot to come into power and thus was Earth Mother to the Killing Fields, this mad bastard who with the unchecked hubris of power crafted a policy which allowed 25,000 plus american soldiers to die on his watch, this democracy mocking wanker who directed the murder of the duly elected president of Chile . . . he is the man who has been chosen by our President to help us understand 911.
Jeez. Next thing you'll tell me is that Elliot Abrams is working for Peace in the Middle East.

I don't think that the people who made the webiste undestand how to sell their book.
Note to self: when I publish a book, I should not offer a link on my website to credible reviews that call my work, "a propaganda screed devoid not only of balance but also of proper recognition of the distinction between domestic criminal law and international law"

Q: What's the difference between boogers and brocolli?
A: Kids will eat boogers.

And here I thought the pictures were gonna be something like the arclight craters all over Laos (still!), or the human bone fragments choking the loamy earth of Cambodia, or the Long Stare of a Hanoi Hilton inmate...silly me...
