Anybody know who did the Beatbox in those MTV commercials with Slick Rick? That guy sounded amazing. posted by octavius at 8:55 AM on December 13, 2002
Probably Doug E. Fresh. They were a duo. Of sorts. I don't think he's getting deported though. posted by yerfatma at 8:59 AM on December 13, 2002
you'll be as good as "That Guy From Police Academy."
if you're into this, you MUST check out Yurilane.com...
i saw this guy perform and he is unbelieveable. I believe he's taken his show to NY, so new yorkers, try and catch it.
it's a one-man show told through beatbox -- sounds stupid, but it's very well done. posted by fishfucker at 9:18 AM on December 13, 2002
Actually, I think the beatboxer in the the Slick Rick MTV ads was Rahzel, from the Roots. posted by nicwolff at 9:33 AM on December 13, 2002
Thanks, nicwolff. That clip's been looming in my subconscious for a long time. posted by octavius at 9:50 AM on December 13, 2002

there's a documentary called breath control that screened at resfest... great look at the history of beatboxing. watch out, you'll fall in love with Marie Daulne from Zap Mama. posted by jcruelty at 12:46 PM on December 13, 2002
Beatboxing (or vocal percussion) is still going strong. There's a whole organization of them.
