Zap those road burners!! Following up yesterday's banal car-talk thread, the Guardian reports that Dubya's Son of Star Wars is already taking out, inadvertantly , its first targets. In this instance hapless BMWs and Jeeps. Excellent I say- go for anything over two tons, 4WD, and moving on on a public thoroughfare.

"Motorbikes are the worst. There was a bike alarm screaming all afternoon recently and the rider didn't have any breakdown cover."

So much for your SUV hatred, marv.

Oooh, nasty troll! This shouldn't last long.

rushmc: I dunno... SUV hatred, a Gruniad story, smug elitism, and a gratuitous Dubya slam... seems to be the cannonical Metafilter story to me.

marvin: anything over two runs, 4wd, and moving on a public highway? So you want to shut down the entire trucking industry then? I suppose asking for a little more forethought in the rantings of a troll is pointless, but that amuses me.

Don't let them get ya down, marvin! Pretty funny story, actually.

Aha, now it makes sense why the US wants to use the radar facilities on the Yorkshire Moors! Britain is big on catching speeding motorists, so perhaps they're going to let the US test the laser system by destroying cars doing 2mph over the speed limit :-)

Thank god in this country (US) we have the freedom to drive pretty much whatever we damn please.

Personally, I ride a sportsbike. SUVs can be a nuisance, but not because they're gas guzlers, but because they tend to attract bad drivers. Additionally, I can't see a damn thing if I get stuck behind one.

If you read the story, you'll see that it actually takes out only vehicles that aren't moving, and that running the engine while stopped keeps the car from freezing up. That'll really help the air quality.

Whilst it's kinda funny I don't like it being half a blast radius from my house.
