This year's broadcast swept its time slot in NYC, apparently outdoing its showing from 2001.

And this year, the video bonfire turned up in another city.

I watched it Christmas morning in DC, for the entire run, while I was cooking and baking and cleaning and otherwise preparing for the family onslaught. Good background noise.

I love Yule Log. It wasn't Christmas those 12 years without it... my brother used to get marshmellows and a stick, and sit in front of the TV.

"Word has it" that in the early 1980s, WPIX ran a version of "TV POwWW"* where the kids would yell "pix" instead of "pow." True?

*TV Powww (or "poww"): on the TV screen, Intellivision-style graphic spaceships would drift in and out of targets. If you were the lucky kid on the phone, you would yell "Pow!" at the right instant to shoot the ship and get points. Beat your opponent (usually side-to-side) and get a prize.

WTXX (ch. 20) broadcast this between afternoon cartoons in the Waterbury, CT area.

The only strategy I ever remember seeing in use is Powpowpow, where you yell "Powpowpowpowpow" repeatedly, as fast as you can.

Kurumi- It is true. I remember.
But the strategy was to yell PIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIXPIX as loud and as fast as possible.

I too remember the PIX game on WPIX. It was an Intellevision game, the name escapes me right now.
There was an interim Yule log, I think in the 98-99 xmas season, it was on cable though. I was staying at my brothers house, having just recently returned to LI, NY.
He would fall asleep on the couch, and I would put that channel on every night and then go to bed, after 2 weeks he finally broke, and openly questioned how he kept waking up to a fireplace on tv.
