Akemashite omedetoo gozaimasu! Kotoshi mo yoroshiku onegaishimasu. (Happy New Year! Untranslatable vague regards!) I'm about to chow down on a traditional Japanese New Year's feast, osechi. My mother-in-law has probably been cooking for the past two days. Let the grinding begin.
I am 36 this year, the year of the sheep on the 12-year Chinese zodiac. Everyone in Japan gets a stack of New Year's cards delivered all on New Year's morning. Because the wheel has turned back to my animal, I am "toshi-otoko" (year-man) in Japan.
Untranslatable vague regards to everyone! posted by planetkyoto at 8:48 PM on December 31, 2002
Hmm. The page is broken for me (and yes, I have Flash). Does it have Hawaiian? Hau`oli makahiki hou, everyone!
We're infusing our New Year's with a touch of Japanese as well... after a traditional ceremony at my family's Zen temple, I'm going to make (for the first time) ozoni - supposedly simple, so I should get it right. posted by pzarquon at 10:20 PM on December 31, 2002
