The recalcitrant and oppugnant thrall was, nevertheless, morigerous. January 6, 2003 4:54 AM Subscribe
"Theriantropic harridan, what elephantine denticles permeate your oral orifice!" Minikin Incarnadine Cowl-Titivated Gamine adduced. From Fairy Tales for the Erudite, for those of you who enjoy a good story where the twain exist evermore in felicity and Elysium.

Wonderful! I came across a story like these a while ago, when I was still in High School, and I wondered, at the time, why the technique was not used in the classroom. Instead of a list of spelling words, give the kids a story they can't understand without a dictionary. Of course, I'm sure not all students would see that as fun, like I do. posted by Nothing at 7:50 AM on January 6, 2003
When I was quite young, my older sister would often sing a song which went something like "A trio of rhodents with defective vision/A trio of rhodents with defective vision/Observe how they perambulate/Observe how they perambulate" and so on.
My sister was weird. Cool, but weird. I'm sure she would have been tickled pink by these tails - er, tales. posted by deadcowdan at 8:23 AM on January 6, 2003
And, of course, the proper spelling of the word I mentioned above is "rodents." I must have been thinking of rhododendrons. Go figure. posted by deadcowdan at 9:57 AM on January 6, 2003
deadcowdan, here's how I knew it:
A trio of optically defective rodents/A trio of optically defective rodents/
Observe how they perambulate/Observe how they perambulate
The group rapidly pursued the agricultural laborer's spouse/
She dissected their rear appendages with a sharpened kitchen utensil/
Have you ever observed such a phenomena over your lifespan as/
A trio of optically defective rodents! posted by jazon at 10:25 AM on January 6, 2003
Jack, as well as Jill, went perpendicular to the loam in the region of the raised mound of earth /
To procure a cylindrical container with a handle of the liquid that descends from the clouds as rain, forms streams, lakes, and seas, and is a major constituent of all living matter and that when pure is an odorless, tasteless, very slightly compressible liquid oxide of hydrogen H2O which appears bluish in thick layers, freezes at 0° C and boils at 100° C, has a maximum density at 4° C and a high specific heat, is feebly ionized to hydrogen and hydroxyl ions, and is a poor conductor of electricity and a good solvent /
Jack fell earthward, whereupon his skeleton of the head of a vertebrate forming a bony or cartilaginous case that encloses and protects the brain and chief sense organs and supports the jaws was separated into parts, with sudden violence /
And Jill, due to a lack of dexterity, prostrated herself earthward, resulting in great harm to the feminine frame of her mammalian form subsequently. posted by iconomy at 11:08 AM on January 6, 2003

Reminds me of The domicile erected by John, which I've seen variously attributed. I think this one is meant to be a dig at 'elegant variation'. posted by raygirvan at 9:51 AM on January 7, 2003
