The Detroit Project, Arianna Huffington's latest offering in the form of a "nonprofit group dedicated to decreasing America's reliance on foreign oil." The ads mimic the anti drug/terrorism commercials. The claim is that driving an SUV=supporting terrorism. A snippet from one of the spots: I helped hijack an airplane. I helped blow up a nightclub. So what if it gets 11 miles to the gallon. I gave money to a terrorist training camp in a foreign country. It makes me feel safe

This post was deleted for the following reason: already discussed (to death) here

The goal of the group is stated as promoting more fuel efficiency and less reliance on foreign oil, but the effect seems more to be SUV bashing.

Um, I know the search engine is sketchy, but scanning the front page for a possible double post is a good idea.

"Who has been buying SUVs since automakers turned them into family vehicles? They tend to be people who are insecure and vain. They are frequently nervous about their marriages and uncomfortable about parenthood. They often lack confidence in their driving skills. Above all, they are apt to be self-centered and self-absorbed, with little interest in the neighbors or communities.

That's not a cynic talking--that's the auto industry's own market researchers and executives.
