Global newsstand: The Newseum has added a way to scan 169 newspaper front pages from around the world, same day as published, in full color PDF format. A good way to see how the same stories are treated in different parts of the world.

I'm so bitter that I didn't think to check if this had ever been posted before. The Newseum front pages is an incredible site! Thanks for posting it. The Newseum itself, in Washington, D.C., is well worth a visit. *sits at desk, drinking coffee from "Trust me, I'm a reporter" mug, purchased during last visit*

Very cool. I've seen the physical version of this -- an entire wall covered with that day's front pages. (one point, mrmcsurly -- I love the Newseum and it is certainly worth visiting multiple times, but it's currently closed until their new building on Pennsylvania Avenue is complete. (they're projecting late 2006.)

Another nifty Newseum link. I saw the accompanying exhibition just before their Virginia building closed -- incredible stories. The companion book is a great coffee-table read. There was also a good TNT documentary about these pictures.

I'm so bitter that I didn't think to check if this had ever been posted before. er, yeah, it has been posted before. My partner is somewhat obsessed with newspaper front pages and was rather annoyed when the Newseum closed in preparation for moving to DC from Virginia. He was quite excited when they built a new version of the front page display on Pennsylvania Avenue. We often walk down there on Saturday afternoons to browse them. He visits the online display just about daily.

...amusingly enough, the page doesn't use the word "global" -- the Metafilter FPP did. But hey, don't let that stop you from criticizing those imperialist bastards! Here, I'll get you started: American pigs!

OK, sorry to have double-posted. I did a Google search and it gave me 19400 and 19402 which showed up because of the "older" "newer" footnotes, but not 19401 which was on this topic.

*sits at desk, drinking coffee from "Trust me, I'm a reporter" mug, purchased during last visit* I used to have that bumper sticker. A colleague of mine brought one back from her trip to the Newseum. Sold that car, miss the sticker. I get a lot less dirty looks when I'm driving these days, though.

The companion book is a great coffee-table read. The book is excellent. Caveat: happy fun pictures do not win Pulitzer Prizes.
