You know, I'm left wondering how many kids in an underfunded school could've benefited from a used G4 Powerbook. Or how many charity organizations. That was a particularly selfish and stupid way to vent aggression.

For those of you too lazy to read the story itself, note that "video and all" means the video card still worked, not the screen. The lady was told that repairing the screen would cost at least $1000, and given that information she decided to discard it.

Just because the screen didn't work didn't mean the rest of the computer didn't work... even if she knew the computer worked and only the screen was messed up (which is debatable), she very likely didn't know that you could hook up a monitor and a usb keyboard and use the machine as a desktop....they should have informed her of this before she made the decision to trash it.

My first thought was that she probably got it wet and thought this would be a good way to dry it out. Which it would not be.

The screen does work, it's just not in good enough shape anymore (what with being baked and all) to be useable. They mentioned the screen because that was the single most expensive part, and at 1000 bucks the lady didn't feel it was worth it. I'd still take the machine if it was offered as a curiosity, I'd set it up in my living room with an external usb keyboard and flat panel display.

What's slightly ironic here is that I'm going to have to wait until I can get home to look at this page, because my work-issued PC laptop doesn't render the graphics as well as my personal PowerBook G4.
