Oh no Yoko

Oh no! Yoko to release a dance version of "Walking on Thin Ice" the track John Lennon was working on the night he died. It's been produced by The Pet Shop Boys and Danny Tenaglia. According to the article it's been a success in clubs. Has anyone heard it? Any good?

There's a pretty great 1985 edit of Yoko's version on the excellent Disco Not Disco compilation (which is full of songs where the early-'80s underground postpunk scene collided with disco, kissed and made up).

I haven't heard the Pet Shop Boys' remix, but I'd call the '85 edit a "dance version" too. It's a pretty funky track. (And yes, it was what John and Yoko were working on that fateful night ... but it's much more of a Yoko song than a John song. She wrote it.)

(Oops; the "Disco Not Disco" re-edit is actually from '81, not '85, which makes sense given the rest of that compilation.)

more power to her. I personally think that the inverse is true - she didn't kill the beatles... as anyone who saw the YES! show can attest to.

when walking on thin ice you might as well dance, aye?

Now I must say that anything musical Yoko does is definitely a weapon of mass destruction. We should send the troops after her...

I know that when I say this, I may be stepping on pins and needles... But I don't like all these people slagging her for breaking up the Beatles.

If I was John and you were Yoko, I would gladly give up musical genius, just to have you as my very own personal Venus.

Actually, Yoko has spent a lot of time on the dance charts lately. Peter Rauhofer remixed Yang Yang for her which spent several weeks on Billboard's Club Chart. Glad to see he's gotten around to "Walking on THhn Ice," which is what she originally wanted remixed. Story was, though, the master was lost .

Never good when the master is lost.

I've only heard the Galaxie 500 cover, but I think Listen, The Snow Is Falling is a great song.

danny tenaglia seems to have some strange infatuation with yoko.. she sang along to his excessive 14 hour set at last years winter music conference.. i was at arc a few weeks ago and an excited danny took the opportunity to let everyone know this track would be out soon.

personally i wish she would just go away

god bless yoko. i met her at her SF MOMA opening and she was a delight. friendly, asked about my (then-burgeoning) pregnancy with interest, and eagerly shared details of her own pregnancies. i've had occasion to meet a lot of rock royalty, few have been as gracious.

she is an incredibly talented artist, and while her audible work isn't for everyone, more power to her.

Roboto: I think the Galaxie 500 cover is better than the original. If you are interested, Yoko's version of Snow Is Falling All the Time is here.

er, 'Walking on Thin Ice' was a 'hit in the clubs' the first time 'round. IIRC, Larry Levan gave it a reet good pounding at the Paradise Garage...

And as Levan & the Garage were such an influence on Danny Tenaglia this project seems to to complete a nice little circle for him.

True dat. Some of her visual work is stunning. Some of it really weird. Bit her large-scale stuff is right on.
