Mamiko picked up a cork that had rolled on the floor at the restaurant where she worked. From it she made her first tiny cork doll. She is often asked where she gets all of her corks. "I don't drink so much, but all of my friends who can drink quite a lot keep many corks for me." The pacifist is my favorite.

actually many of these share the same sense of tragicomedy as pootiki. but even if the corkdolls themselves weren't superb, the touchingly affectionate photography is itself a delight.

Metafilter is not so good at rewarding these great links that do not require much discussion. Everything about that site is so great. The dolls themselves are well served by the wonderful photography, which looks great on the well designed pages. So great!

taz, you could always use old toilet-paper tubes as critter-tooth-grinder. My g/f's hamster gets the donation of all the TP tubes in my bathroom. TMI, OT: how the hell can two people go through a 24-pak of TP in just over a month!?!?!?
