Overturn, Overture, What Ever!

EXTRY! EXTRY! Read All About It! New York Times commits Freudian-Slippish Typo in title of AltaVista story! (link ironically via Google News)
But seriously, with CMGI selling AV for about 6% of what it paid to buy it, and Overture's stock price dropping 20% the day the deal was announced, does this mean AltaVista is D.O.A.?
If so, where will we go for a dopey translation/Douglas Adams tribute?
In other Search Engine News, those Norwegians at FAST (aka alltheweb.com) are gettin' a Dell, dude. And the guy who started all this by selling out to Google is real quiet.

AltaVista was my search engine of choice when it first came out. It was a damn fine search engine, but Google became better. I still use AltaVista occasionally but I don't trust it's 'freshness' as much as Google.

DOA? perhaps comatose is more accurate.

I learned a new phrase from Evhead's non-blog: "shopping for yachts" == "clearing my head".

Education is such a wonderful thing.

If so, where will we go for a dopey translation/Douglas Adams tribute?

Well I don't know about the Douglas Adams tribute, but for dopey translations Google has one right here

The Douglas Adams tribute was in naming AV's translation service "Babel Fish"

Dell will use FAST's recently upgraded software, which boasts linguistic features to match users' intentions with results presented, automatic spell-checking and search keywords highlighted in all results descriptions.

Looks like Dell read the 37signals Search Research Report. Good for them.

(slightly)OT: I [heart] Wendell, but you're wasted around here, little mister. Please, in the name of all that is holy, come back to us and never go away again. I know it wasn't a promise, but I miss ya, old pal, old foil.
