Same Difference at last

Same Difference, Derek Kirk Kim's great online comic has come to it's conclusion. For Kim it's been "2 years. 79 pages. 9 pens. 2 countries. 3 computers. 4 residences. 6 conventions. 725 lonely nights." But for us it's been nothing less than the slow episodic revelation of an amazing talent. I love his elegant line and the depth of his characters. It's funny as hell, but touching enough to make you cry.

Wonderful - not a big follower of online comics but I really enjoyed that. Good post - thanks!

Wow, I'm going to miss the updates. I think the dialog is superb, especially the quick witted humor Nancy and Simon share. Of course I think half of that is the delivery - the facial expressions. I love how much is conveyed with just two tones and a line.

I agree. I'm through about half of it and it's wonderfully written and beautifully drawn. Thanks for the post.

Liked it, but I would have liked another page or two. Though maybe that just means it was good, to leave the reader wanting more.

This is very good.
Plus, the safeway is too real. Think he works from photographs?

i don't know much (anything) about comics, but i was impressed by the way three or four different approaches on the same theme (getting older) were presented while keeping the plot interesting and the size down (if that's two years work he needs to find a more efficient way of making a living!). much more complex (and rewarding) than i was expecting.

if you like same difference, you should really check out his one-shot pieces. i've always liked "pulling" and "hurdles."

he also did a guest stip at diesel sweeties a while back, if i remember correctly.

And what's with all these bands taking two years to record an album that's only one hour long?

Nothing better than an unheard of webcomic on a slow Friday.

Thanks!

Anyone have any suggestions for a suitable replacement, now that I won't be seeing any more updates? I've been on a steady diet of Same Difference for a while now... it'll be hard to drop it cold turkey.

You know what is the best thing about this? He finished it. It's bad when you get to the middle of a webcomic and discover that is hasn't been updated in 6 months.

I'm glad everyone liked the post, but it's a little embarrassing getting all this praise for just pointing to someone else's hard work. I should have included the main URL of his site, as it is not on the Same Difference page. smallstoriesonline.com It has links to Derek Kirk Kim's other comics.

Damn fine work. I remember running into the first part of this comic a year or so ago. I'm very glad to have the chance to see how it turned out.

Metafilter at its best!
