Tom Corboy made an incredibly great 1/2 hour documentary about Elvis worshippers in about 1984. It was called "Rock'n'Roll Disciples" in the US, and repackaged as "The Cult that is Elvis" by Rhino (at least that's what it was called in the UK when I bought it). Facets Multimedia (facets.org) carries it now under the name "Mondo Elvis". It has no narration, just lets the people speak for themselves. I can't do justice to how good this thing is. Writers would kill for dialogue as poignant and hilarious.

The Elvis of our world is kidnapped to act as the saviour of a parallel dimension. Nuh Uh... In our ecocatastrophic dystopian future the Church Of Elvis is huge and agents are sent to a weird parallel Earth--where World War II was never fought and all the black people in the South have "disappeared"--to kidnap their nobody Elvis and bring him back here to exploit the Church of E. When they walk in his kitchen, they find that Elvis has just murdered his mother. Hijinks blah blah woof woof.
