misterpolice.com is an appreciation site for those hardworking officers in Thailand's police force (in Thai, but the photos are priceless). I love those tight brown uniforms, don't you? I found the site through two news stories, Thai police swamped by sex offers (news.com.au) and Stop - in the name of love (The Nation).

THAILAND'S male police are battling unwanted advances from besotted women and gay men who can't seem to resist their snug-fitting brown uniforms. Great post, jetgrrl! Yet I just can't picture them, in the interests of going about undisturbed, in loose-fitting zoot suits.

Surely these cute, tight-brown-uniformed, sex gods are not the same Thai police force currently suspected of running a shoot-to-kill policy in the "Thai War on Drugs" - 1000 dead in 6 weeks, they could certainly do with some good publicity.

These uniforms somehow remind me Mad Max cop uniforms in the first movie. On another note I had realized a funny coincidence a coupla years ago. Thailand is one of the prostitution capitals of the world... and its capital happens to be Bangkok.

freakystyley: Actually, most Bangkok residents don't know what "Bangkok" is; "Bangkok" is the name of the old site of the city and a name really only used by foreigners. The city we call Bangkok is actually called "krung-theb" in Thai, which is itself short for: Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit Which is the longest place name in the world. But Krung theb means... city of angels.

Hey niceness, that was an interesting link. In a country that size that is a lot of people killed. The statistic that really stands out is that 5% of the Thai population is addicted to meth. That's unbelievable. I don't have the time to research on the web, but I wonder if that number is correct?

Monkeyman: I've seen 5% addiction bandied about all over the place. This story is amazing - I thought about an FPP but too lazy. I was in Malaysia last month and assumed this would be well-known news back in the West but it appears not. The Thai Govt have effectively given the police carte blanche to kill anybody they suspect of being involved with illegal drugs. In fact worse than that, the Govt have set targets for the police and appear to be actively encouraging murder. I'm not sure what the figures are now but when the death toll was 600 (after 3 weeks) the Police were still claiming to have killed only 13 (in self-defence) the rest were supposedly the result of intra-drugs-gang fighting.

That really is amazing. In proportion to the the American population, 80,000 people would be killed. The Thai police aren't fucking around when they call it a drug war.

At the moment, over 1,000 have been killed in the Thai drug war, and the government claims to have only killed 31. They say they rest are due to fighting among the drug gangs themselves. Now PM Thaksin Shinawatra says he's had a price put on his head.
