A 100-ton mech is the ultimate fishing machine. With upcoming titles like Steelhead Battalion and Cthulhu Karts, it's possible that Schadenfreude Interactive might be the next game industry juggernaut. Or they may be an April Fool's prank spotted in the pages of the April issue of Computer Games.

Wow.. I got 22 out of 25 right and 17 is the low end of the 120+ IQ bracket? I don't think I'm stupid or anything, but I don't think I'm THAT smart... still a neat test though

Great post, inkslinger. I would pay top-dollar for each and every one of those games. I'd even buy two copies of Age of Ornithology, just for good measure. Does anyone know who's behind it? The listed names in the about section are all German words that have Pythonesque meanings. For example, there's Moerderhaeschen "Little killer rabbit," Kaesegeschaeft "Cheese shop," and Schwarzritter "Black knight." Is it Mojo time?

Ain't no way I'm using my Atlas Variant 6 for catchin' carp. (If these proposed games were even remotely factual, FASA and Microsoft would be all over Schadenfreude Interactive so fast your Cthulhu cart would look like standing still. But on the plus side, it seems a good Flash developer could probably knock games like these out in a month. Anybody up to the challenge?)

Does anyone know who's behind it? A WHOIS search traces the domain, phobe.com, back to game developer Lars Norpchen. That said, for the reasons Wulfgar lays out and for many, many others (I can't picture Tolkien Enterprises even hearing the pitch for Nazgul Thunder), I think Schadenfreude is intended as humor. However, if you like the humor, a Google search shows that Norpchen does have a company called Octopus Motor currently at work on a game called They Came From Hollywood, which in turn has its own entertaining subsite, Harold Haxton: A Life in the Can.

Thanks, Inkslinger! I don't think anyone here thought the games were serious offerings. (Your FPP pretty much told us what was coming.) For my part, I think it's one of the funniest things I've seen in a long, long time and I really enjoyed it.

Would parody protect them? Clearly derivative, but very clearly "game satire" (of a clever sort, no less). I'd like to think that this could at least acquire the level of legitimacy that Weird Al has.
