Survival System Train & Other Sculpture - "atomic-powered cyborgs, quasi-animate freight trains, and other absurd and fabulous contraptions populate the universe of Kenji Yanobe. Welcome to the world of the future-past, the unkempt aftermath of Better Living Through Science."

Cool. Maybe Kenji can do battle with the Bear Suit

I saw this guy's opening in Berkeley. He has taken some *in-freaking-credible* photos of Chernobyl, wearing one of his "survival suits" (which, no, didn't protect him from the radiation, but had geiger counters all over it, which, yes, were going crazy.)

It's really beautiful work to look at -- the craft that goes into these suits and vehicles is unbelievable.

i highly recommend going to see one of his shows if there is anything near you.

For when you desperately need to flee the apocalypse, but not too fast, and without sacrificing style -- Yanobe's Survival Racing Car Type: Dr. O Ochanomizu. Dashing out to the barren wilderness, or just poking through the rubble, Yanobe is your number one choice for radiation blocking clothes and accessories!

Googling around, I often saw Mariko Mori mentioned in association with Yanobe. Her futurist aesthetic is a little more... upbeat. I liked Birth of a Star for the sheer bubblegum.

I found this shot of Yanobe in a Chernobyl nursery school (via this interview). Good stuff, madam.

wow, eddydamascene - you really dug up some cool stuff, and just the stuff fishfucker was referencing...very cool, thanks for taking the time to track it down...I found another article with some photos of different works too. I will have to keep my eye out for any traveling exhibits of his work.

stbalbach, I forgot about the bear suit guy! Interesting to hear that he continues in his obsession and quest - thanks for the update!
