Worst case scenario - everything you're afraid might happen, and the kitchen sink too. [ I have a strange, superstitious belief that to voice these fears is to somehow deflect the worst of possible disasters...]

What a bunch of crap. Everyone knows that the American invasion of Iraq is going to precipitate nuclear Armageddon for US civilians. sheesh.

Another article loaded with dystopic inferences, another nasty MeFi thread in the making.

Personally I wrote this editorial off as soon as the first sentence used unattributed hearsay to make the most significant point. But then again most war-related posts here are simply preaching to the choir or trolls (on both sides of the coin), so why should I expect any better?

"Do all you lefties here actually believe that shit?"

I wish I found this to be as ridiculous as you seem to.

But yes, I do think that Iraq will be a quagmire for the US. I think our inability to use diplomacy effectively will make matters worse. I think the war will increase terror attacks in the US.

I'm still proud to be an American. And I support our troops 100%. I hope they get the job done and come home safe. They'll get a hero's welcome from me.

But I also think the war is a very bad idea. And I think Bush has done more to hurt my country than any other president.

I hope things turn out well. But I honestly believe they won't.
