Kid Rock Starves To Death: MP3 Piracy Blamed... "This is exactly the kind of thing we've been warning our fans about," James Hetfield, the lone surviving member of Metallica, told reporters during a press conference at Hollywood's Grace Church Homeless Shelter. "First, they found Madonna dead of a crack overdose in the alley behind Liquid. Then my best friend and bandmate Lars is killed by cops during a botched hold-up of a liquor store. Now, Kid Rock dies of starvation like a filthy dog in the street. My God, people, didn't we learn the lesson of Elton John?"

How typical. Instead of responding to the rock star (okay, fake-ass, no-talent, had one alright song and is now completely-out-of-ideas-rock star) starvation issue, we bloggers completely ignore this looming pandemic, opting instead to backslide into the comfortable morass of self-absorbtion*.

On a semi-related note, did anyone see the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on digital media? Lars Ulrich is such a huge friggin dork. He's even more of a dork than that guy from Napster. Plus, at some point, didn't Lars think, "Hey wait a minute. What am I doing hanging out with Orrin Hatch anyway? Have I completely lost my mind?" Has he completely forgotten about how it was fans, I mean, thieves, who pirated and shared copies of early Metallica albums that actually made their success possible, back before they were on MTV high rotation and getting play on Top 40 radio?

I suspect that they have completely lost touch with reality and are entering that phase of rock stardom where they will start to play concerts in sequined gowns, a la Cinderella or Ozzy circa 1989.

(*I was going to say navel-gazing, but I'm just sick of people using that term.)

well, I'm an old man, and my memory isn't as parity-checked as it useta wuz... sorry.

I knew it was old as of date of writing... still think it's funny though, and someone wrote an article that reminded me of it... {shrug}
