c|net buys ZD I guess the bright side is, now Download.com's archives will be combined with ZDNet's, as well as shareware.com.

Of all of the internet media giants that I hate on earth, it's ZD I hate most. This loathing goes back to the late 80's for me. Back when ZD net was just a poopy little area on Compuserve and only a couple of mags. I'm sure eveyone will now enjoy those wonderfully objective and unbiased product reviews that are littered the ads of the "top picks" on c|net now... I can't wait.

I find I check out the c|net site every so often, but I'm usually disappointed. Besides I'll never forgive them for their TV shows and teaching people to use "tracert" (which they pronounce as tracert as opposed to traceroute, I know I know, DOS vs. Unix, but COME ON!) ZD and c|net sound like a perfect marriage to me. Bundle the crap, makes it easier to avoid.

Duz any of you know whether there's a chart or graph somewhere of the number of online mergers happening each month over the last few years?

Atleast Cnet remained consistant, I don't look at it as a news source, I rarely read news.com, but download.com is a wonderfull service, so is their hardware/gamecenter thing, latest updated reviews.

Both sites are completely unusable since they feel obligated to post a couple of hundred ads per page. I hope they both go down in flames.

Yeah god forbid they put ads on their pages and try to make money to stay in business. TV would be nice without commercials too huh?
