Come to the Quiet Party. No loud music, no yelling, no cell phones and one designated area where there is no talking AT ALL!!

Inside the silent room we provide paper & pencils. Pass notes around - be mischievous, have a little fun, meet some new people!

So technically quiet, but still a lot of noise. Interesting concept, though.

If I could attend the Beijing party I guarantee I'd be quiet.

The site, which has a really strong "NYC singles" vibe, has a link to a few articles that describe the interaction there. From the USA Today article:

"People lose their inhibitions when they're writing rather than talking," says Noe, 40, the kind of guy who traverses the city wearing earplugs. For this shy, artsy crowd of mostly thirtysomethings, many of whom look like they're about to launch into a game of Dungeons & Dragons, the cards offer a means of chatting up someone without tripping over any tongues, without looking anyone in the eye.

I'm more than half-inclined to go into NYC this weekend and check it out: I'd love to sit in a corner for an hour or so and watch the facial expressions of the guests. I'm willing to bet that the mating rituals are much more cutthroat at a Quiet Party than in any singles bar.

So it's kind of like a big game of Pictionary where the clue is "Sleep with me".

Sounds interesting, until you read this: many of whom look like they're about to launch into a game of Dungeons & Dragons. I picture bumping into myself at age 14 and shudder.

Still, I'd give it a go if it ever came down to DC. Blandville needs all the unusual it can get.

The was a silent party at my college last year. The refreshments were carrot sticks. People didn't eat much.

We need quiet speed dating. Do you think that I'd get kicked out of the quiet party if I showed up drunk? I can be a quiet drunk.
