The George Eastman House photography collection is simply incredible and merits hours of browsing. I particularly enjoyed the color prints of Nickolas Muray and this gallery of old stereo slides

I can't believe I've never heard of this collection! The stereo slides are fantastic. What a wonderful resource - it's going to take hours and hours and hours to go through all of this. I like the comments about the photographs you linked to, like this one.

Calling Cindy Sherman...

Thanks for the Nickolas Muray pointer, MrBaliHai - I thought I'd gone over the Eastman House collection before your post. Just shows: links don't really exist until someone else posts them on the Filter. :)

Thanks for pointing out those comments, iconomy. Believe it or not, I was so absorbed in looking at those glorious prints that I missed them totally!

Thanks for this, MrBaliHai. I especially enjoyed the work by Julia Margaret Cameron.

Wow, this is a real gem, MrBaliHai - thank you! I particularly liked the Constance Sackville West album - she was doing montages in the mid 1800s - cool stuff. And then there is the 1920s melodrama When Biddy Served Tomatoes Undressed and the exquisite early cheesecake of Louis-Camille D'Olivier. Wonderful historic photos abound on this site. Great stuff!

Cool link. If you're ever in Rochester, I highly recommend a visit to the Eastman House -- the house is interesting, the camera museum is fascinating, and the exhibits are great. And Eastman was the main benefactor behind the wonderful Eastman School of Music in town as well -- I've never gone through Rochester without stopping to hear a great concert.
