Capitol Hill Staffers

They are the weak, the maligned, the oppressed. They are...the Capitol Hill staffers. (One of the many entertaining features of Hill Zoo, a site that brings a little humanity back to Washington.)

Cool site, oissubke. Nice to see "the kids" get a moment in the sun, so to speak.

Of note: this staffer has a name that just screams "action movie star" and/or "international spy."

i dunno, dude. the word 'soul-sapping' springs to mind. it's like cataloguing drones... A bit of good, edgy humor would go a long way.

kaibutsu, one of my best friends/occasional love interest/arch-enemies is profiled on that page. She told me that if what you submit to them is too edgy they just replace it with standard D.C. speak.

For those of us that have to live and work on the Hill, the staffers are a royal pain in the ass. Spoiled, rude and bratty are the terms that immediately come to mind. Try attempting to eat brunch on a Sunday morning on the Hill without getting stuck next to some frat guy from Arkansas slamming beers and loudly talking about the chick he "banged" the night before or a couple of anorexic girls nursing bloodys and hangovers and talking about "I can't believe you blew that guy from Arkansas last night!" Try going to a bar, any bar in DC will do, on a Friday night without having some dumbass who thinks he's on the fast track to being the next Dubya tell you how great he is, and they'll always remind you that they are a Hill staffer, in case you hadn't figured it out within the first 30 seconds of walking in the door. Not that they are all bad, mind you, some of my best friends have been staffers (one may have even been black) but I find a large number of these ones I want to strangle. But the Hill Zoo is a great place to fill a shitty basement apartment fast or sell off a piece of horrid 5th hand furniture.

Please note, by staffer I am referring only to the temporary, just out of college or on college internship before heading to law school staffer kids, not the long term, dedicated, educated and intelligent staff of Congress. Oh, and I do find it funny that the official Hill term for the big guy you work for is "the Member."
