President Bush Hijacks May Day

Remember what May Day used to stand for? This year, President Bush has designated May 1st of each year Loyalty Day in the USA. Money for indoctrination cheerfully allocated. Hurrah - my tax dollars at work!

And just what is defined as loyalty? Not disagreeing with the president?

I wasn't aware that time was counted since the Independance of the USA--I guess we're in 227 AI (after independence)

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand three, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-seventh.

I'd like to note again that the 20th century parallels exhibited by the Bush Administration are disturbing.

If the actual May Day can be co-opted by a bunch of proles who want to sing the Internationale then it's also OK for anyone else to co-opt it for their own agenda. The precedent has already been set.

On Loyalty Day, we reaffirm our allegiance to our country and resolve to uphold the vision of our Forefathers.
This to me says that the last thing you should do is agree with the president on Loyalty Day. The vision of the Forefathers was realized in the constitution, a document that the administration is only familiar with as an obstacle to be dismantled and overcome.

Or as some of us like to call it: May 1st. Although perhaps the idiot religious fanatic superpatriots and the deluded cadillac commie morons could collide en masse and beat eachother to a pulp in the street. That I'd take a day off to enjoy.

Doublepost from a mere 6 days ago. From that thread:

This was first officially made a national day of observance on May 1 in 1958 by Eisenhower.

For all this talk of lefty groupthink, it seems that a lot of mefites look down on those that really work for a living. Unless you built your own home out of C++, it might bear remembering that even people who go outside are worthwhile human beings.
